Why do they never Listen?

The first week of July we spent 4 days at Mom & Marks' trailer on Chesley Lake. We love it up there as it is so quiet and relaxing. The kids enjoy it just as much, as there are lots of things for them to do too. Kenzie & Aiden got to stay an extra week with Gramma & Grampa as they attended Bible Camp. Another fun thing for the kids and many friendships made. MacKenzie made a friend all the way from Texas.
MacKenzie and Aiden have been bugging for awhile now to water ski.....now if you've tried this, you know it's not easy...RIGHT? Try and tell 2 kids who think they know it all....lol.
We set out on the boat Sunday morning, MacKenzie was the first to try it. I knew it was a mistake as Brent was in the water helping her get ready......he has NIL patience with her, and when he looks at her the wrong way she always starts to cry....but on with the show! She's already and the boat takes off.....and the boat stops. She's bawling and never wants to ski again. She didn't really try to get out, so I am sure eventually one day she will try again.
We decide that we will just pack it in and get the tube ropes out, Aiden.....bawling.. has other plans. He is determined to ski...after much pleading with me telling him it's hard, and if MacKenzie couldn't do it there is no way he could, which makes him cry and scream harder. FINE....get in the water and lets do it then.
Brent's getting him all ready to go, the skis are barely small enough for his feet, and ALL OF US are telling him...."Aiden, if you can't get up, LET GO OF THE ROPE!"
He's ready...the boat takes off....Aiden's not getting up NOR is he letting go of the rope. We are dragging him across the water, his head is under water just skimming up over his forehead. My heart is sinking and I yell at Mark to STOP!!! The boat stops and Aiden still will not let go of the rope. He's doing the bobbing up and down and Mark dives in off the back of the boat to get Aiden who at this time has finally let go of the rope. Mark gets him into the boat.....he's screaming and crying hysterically...."I NEVER WANNA SKI AGAIN"! He then proceeds to tell Mark that he is bad.....we have to explain to him that it wasn't Grampa's fault and why he didn't let go of the rope. Aiden a little bit more traumatized than Kenzie.....I doubt will ever try to ski again. I think we will just stick to tubing for now. All in all we had a GREAT week at the Lake...and can't wait to get up there again.
